Older thermostats that use mercury are unsafe and by now not very accurate. New digital
thermostats come in programmable and non-programmable models. The programmable
models offer fuel savings when the set=back feature is used. This simply means that when
your home is not occupied or throughout the night the thermostat automatically sets the
temperature back to a lower temperature in the heating season and a higher temperature
